The Lasting Legacy of Mac Miller

Image
I was 15 years old the first time I heard Mac Miller. One of my friends had his iPod Touch playing out loud in the school cafeteria as I walked by, and I heard the chorus of one of Mac's most well-known songs, "Best Day Ever". " No matter where life takes me/find me with a smile/Pursuit to be happy, only laughing like a child/I never thought life would be this sweet/It got me cheesin' from cheek to cheek."   I was immediately drawn to the music and the voice of the man, who I quickly learned was just a few years older than I was. This began a near decade-long obsession to the musician who I viewed so much more than just a regular white frat rapper. Mac became the soundtrack to my teens and early 20's, as I'm sure he did for almost anyone my age that heard his music. As much as I enjoyed K.I.D.S and Best Day Ever, Mac's impact on my life began to really take shape in 2013 with his 2nd studio album, "Watching Movies

What To Do With UCF

Image
In the last two years, the University of Central Florida Knights haven't lost a football game. In fact, the last game they've lost was on December 17th, 2016, to Arkansas State. However, despite their remarkable unbeaten streak, the College Football Playoff Committee refuses to put UCF in the top 4, thereby eliminating them from the college football playoffs. Those who are against UCF being in the playoffs point to their relatively weak schedule, and say that the only reason they haven't lost in two years is due to the fact that they don't face top end talent such as Alabama, Clemson, and Oklahoma, among others.  This is the most logical reason as to why the committee doesn't want to give UCF Top 4 status. They don't believe that their resume is good enough, despite beating everyone that's been put in front of them. They even beat #7 ranked Auburn in last years Peach Bowl, but going into this season they were only ranked 21st overall. This season th

Cowboys-Saints Thursday Night Preview

Image
One of the more fascinating match-ups of the NFL season is set to take place tonight, with the league-leading 10-1 New Orleans Saints visiting the NFC East-leading 6-5 Dallas Cowboys. This match-up intrigues me for multiple reasons, the first and most obvious being that I flat out just like watching the Saints play. They're the only team in the NFL that does everything well, and watching them execute offense, defence and special teams is a treat. Drew Brees is likely going to win the MVP award this season, and their defence has surprised many people (myself included), in their ability to stop the run and make other teams offence's one-dimensional. The key to beating the Saints is to keep their offence on the sidelines by running the ball and working the clock, but the Saints ability to stop the run neutralizes that idea. I also like this match-up due to the fact that the Saints aren't playing at home. If this game was in New Orleans, it would likely result in a 20-30

NFL Thanksgiving Game Predictions

Image
For NFL fans, Thanksgiving Day in the United States is truly one of the best days on the football calendar. It offers fans the unique ability to watch three Thursday games, something that only happens once a year. For someone like myself who lives outside the United States, it will be a constant reminder of the amazing food that I'll be missing out on, as well as the fact that we don't get two full days off work ,    unlike my American neighbours to the south. The slate of games as a whole is somewhat lackluster, whoever each game does present story-lines that make the games compelling. Game #1: Chicago Bears (7-3) @ Detroit Lions (4-6) - 12:30 PM The first game of the day features the Bears & Lions. Chicago, fresh off their Sunday night victory over Minnesota, will have to travel to Detroit to face the Lions. This scheduling snafu may make this an unwinnable game for Chicago. It's total BS that the NFL who says they care about player safety would have a te

Rams-Chiefs Monday Night Preview

Image
This week's Monday Night Football game has the potential to be one of the best games of the 2018-19 NFL season, with the 9-1 Kansas City Chiefs taking on the 9-1 Los Angeles Rams. The game was originally scheduled to take place in Mexico City at the famous Estadio Azteca, however due to poor field conditions the NFL has decided to move the game to Los Angeles as a Rams home game. This decision by the NFL was met with some scrutiny, but overall the NFL made the right call. The last thing the Rams, Chiefs or the NFL wants is a star player on one of the best teams in the league to get hurt because of field conditions. Aerial shot of Estadio Azteca earlier this week While the loss of a neutral field is a negative for the Chiefs, the reality is that the move shouldn't affect the game that much. There will still be thousands of Chiefs fans in Los Angeles for the game, just as there was in Week 1 of this season, when the Chiefs played the Los Angeles Chargers and despite i

Panthers vs Steelers Week 10 Preview

Since the NFL implemented weekly Thursday Night Football games in 2012, the results have been mediocre at best. For fans like me who love watching football, it's been great. I love the fact that after the Monday Night game there is only two days until the next game, however I can also see the definite downsides as well. The main complaints have revolved around player safety, due to the amount of rest that players need to recover following playing a full NFL game. The turnaround from playing Sunday to playing again Thursday night is drastic, and has absolutely resulted in more injuries than necessary. On top of that, the games usually aren't very good. Take last week for example: The 1-7 San Francisco 49ers hosted the 1-6 Oakland Raiders, with the 49ers blowing out the Raiders 34-3 in an unwatchable mess of a game, and that might have not even been the worst Thursday night game of the month. Two weeks earlier, the Denver Broncos beat the Arizona Cardinals 45-10 in a

UFC 230 Main Event Preview

Heeere come the big boys. UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by two hammering heavyweights, Derrick Lewis and Daniel Cormier. Lewis, fresh off his electrifying last-second comeback win over Alexander Volkov, and Cormier, who won the heavyweight belt over Stipe Miocic last time he stepped in an octagon. Lewis-Volkov Highlights -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ofC8hvgyj8 On paper, this matchup absolutely favours DC. He's more experienced, and his overall abilities greatly outweigh Lewis'. However, the big X-factor in this fight has to be the power of Lewis. Going back to his last fight, he was getting beaten soundly by Volkov until he connected with a thunderous right hand with under 20 seconds left in the fight. If DC wants to continue his run of dominance and retain his heavyweight belt, he'll have to avoid making the same mistake. The reason why I'm siding with DC in this fight is because he's experienced fighting guys with a lot of powe
